Jim Laker was always one of my dad's cricketing heroes. Being a Leicestershire boy I was always selfishly proud that Tony Lock took the 20th wicket but I regret that now because it was spiteful. I too practised that grip but I could only ever get it to move right to left, never the other way. Anyone who aspired to be a spin bowler would surely have liked to have delivered that magic ball by Shane Warne to Mike Gatting? I remember the Eagle, I bought a commemorative compilation annual a few years ago.
I don't really remember how I used to do it and maybe no longer can, but would try again in the garden if I had a cricket ball and the neighbours were out.
