What Is Wrong In These Pictures? (10-12)

This is turning into a marathon but I’ll see it through to all fifteen. Almost there.

Here is the penultimate set of three pictures from the puzzles in my dad’s 1927 edition of Arthur Mee’s Children’s Encyclopedia. Each contains an error to identify. Most people found the last three the easiest so far. My overall average went up to 67% - six out of nine. Can I maintain it? My answers and the answers are below.

MY ANSWERS AND THE ANSWERS

10. This stumps me. The shadows all seem correct except, on consulting the answers, it says they are drawn in perspective rather than parallel. That’s not very obvious in the drawing. Unfair. 6/10.

11. What shield is this? I’ve no idea. It says it’s the arms of the City of London and that the dagger should be the other way up. 6/11.

12. I’m going to say that ostriches don’t live where there are palm trees. Wrong again. They should have only two toes visible on each foot. 6/12.

None at all right for me today. A disaster. Back to 50%. The final set of three next time.

  2. I guessed the first one but had no idea about the second one, and with the ostrich, I thought along the same lines as you - that's one out of three for me.

    1. The original host of the TV programme Mastermind defined difficult questions as ones you don't know the answer to. Soem of these either you know or you don't.

  3. I thought I was thick, lol, glad you were stumped too.

  4. I did not know the dagger on the coat of arms or the ostrich and like you guessed that the ostrich might be with the wrong background, i.e. palm trees. The shadows of the trees puzzled me but at a guess they were converging off picture.

    1. So, is that one out of three today? Ostrich feet weren't in your TV quiz book.

    2. I think I get one out of three. No, but I remember a question about the duck billed platypus.

  5. I'm waiting for a series of photos of a risqué nature taken by Prince Andrew with the same caption. You would increase your hit-rate one thousandfold.

    1. That would be too easy. We'd all get 100%. The same with any photograph containing Prince Andrew.

  6. Wow, I actually got the shadow and the ostrich correct but I didn't have a clue about the shield. I'm a big animal lover and noticed the feet on the ostrich right away. So two out of three today.

    1. You're the star with these three. I'm impressed you knew about ostrich feet - none of us will ever forget that now - you can't say this blog is not educational.
